RED

Welcome to our page! The class teacher in Red class is Miss Watson. Mrs Brand is the full time teaching assistant. Mrs Arrand is also a teaching assistant in class too on a Wednesday and Thursday afternoon. Our PE days this term are Monday and Friday. Please bring PE kits into school on a Monday and we will send them home on a Friday. Reading books will be changed on a Wednesday. Please remember to sign your child's reading diary when you have shared their books with them. Homework books will be sent home every Friday and collected in on a Wednesday too. Thank you!

Our whole school theme for the Summer term is 'All Creatures Great and Small' and our essential question is 'Who was the greatest dinosaur?'. We will be learning about lots of different dinosaurs in our new immersive classroom which has been transformed into a dino-mite dinosaur den! It includes a waterfall, reading cave, dinosaur nest, Triceratops territory and T-Rex territory. Towards the end of our project we will decide who we think was the greatest and present our learning in groups in preparation for our dino-mite exhibition!

The Early Years Foundation Stage has 7 areas of learning.

Here is what we will be covering in the Summer term:

Personal, Social and Emotional Development

We will be developing our understanding of the school values with a focus on ‘Respect’ and ‘Empowerment’, developing our teamwork and problem solving skills in team challenges, playing group games with rules, solving problems with our peers independently by thinking of our own ideas and fair solutions, and sharing our home experiences during our weekly Tapestry time. We will also be developing our confidence in preparation for our exhibition and presentation of learning.

Communication and Language

We will be learning how to be good communicators and how to present our learning confidently, we will also give and respond to feedback using critique. We will use story maps and mountains to create and retell stories and events with actions, extend our vocabulary and ask/answer how and why questions in response to stories and non-fiction texts.

Physical Development

We will be developing our control and co-ordination in all movements, handling tools safely and effectively, forming our letters using the cursive script, and controlling our letter size using lines. We will develop our understanding of the importance of keeping fit and healthy and a healthy diet. We will develop our skipping skills through the skip4life programme from the ‘Let’s Get Ahead’ partnership, and celebrate and develop our football skills on ‘World Cup day’, we will develop a dinosaur dance and compete in the whole school ‘GoNoodle’ competition.

Literacy

We will be continuing to develop our phonic knowledge and our knowledge of tricky red words in Read Write Inc. We will use guided reading and guided writing sessions to develop our reading and writing of sentences. We will also be using story maps and mountains to develop our story writing and storytelling language, changing parts of the story and characters to build our own. We will develop information maps using non-fiction books to present our learning about dinosaurs. We will develop our enjoyment of reading with our Year 2 reading buddies.

Mathematics

In Number we will be adding and subtracting on a number line, learning our number bonds to 10, doubling and halving numbers, estimating and counting in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s. In Shape, Space and Measure we will be measuring and ordering using length and weight, as well as developing our knowledge of shapes.

Understanding the World

We will be developing our knowledge of 10 key dinosaurs and fossils. We will be developing our computing and programming skills using our set of Dash robots, Green Screen, QR codes, and use of various apps on our iPads.

Expressive Arts and Design

We will be experimenting with new techniques and media and creating lots of masterpieces including balloon and handprint dinosaurs, dinosaur hats and dinosaur skeletons. We will develop our imaginative play and movement to music.
