Intent
Through art and design we aim to build creativity that stays with the children for life. We want them to be able to express themselves and show preferences towards artists and artwork in order for them to give opinions and be able to critique. The children cover the main skills in artwork across their time in the school; drawing, painting, collage, printing, textiles and sculpture. These are revisited and built upon each year so the children have a solid foundation of skills to continue their art journey into their later years in school. Children have opportunities to explore a wide range of current artists and artists from the past. We aim for this to be diverse and also include artists that are local to us. Children will take part in engaging, active and practical sessions that where possible will link to their projects in the classroom. Children use the skills above to recreate artists work and this allows them to build their own personal interests in areas of art. A high quality of art work is displayed consistently around school and lends itself to our immersive learning environments.
